You’re one of those deceptively mainstream-looking-but-stylish gals who listens to all kinds of music. I dig it, even if I don’t always like what you like.

    Pearl Jam Twenty

I suspect this won’t be very popular with a lot of my followers, but I don’t care: I love and have always loved Pearl Jam, and from what I know of him, I really like Eddie Vedder too. He seems gentle, nice, empathic and compassionate, as well as pleasantly weird with a streak of righteousness and integrity I think is often over-shadowed by their/his commercial success.

It’s funny, but I remember a time when I was mocked for loving Freddie Mercury and Queen. Then Frank Turner covers them, and suddenly it’s “okay.”

I don’t do “cool.” I’m not cool. I just love what I love.

Lucero, “I Can’t Stand to Leave You”

Yes, I’ve felt this kinda pain
A hole straight through my chest
    It’s always there
    It’s never far away
    Seems now
    It’s all
    That’s left

April 25th marks the one year anniversary of DBN. It’s been a pretty good year, amiright?
On that note, I asked the kind folks over at Lucero if they’d care to celebrate this grand occasion with me - with us! - and they were into it. Now, I know y’all are disappointed about not winning the autographed copy of Women & Work on vinyl (pictured), but you still have a chance to win the autographed Women & Work promotional poster (also pictured).
But wait, there’s more! The Vinyl District, for which y’all know I am an Editor and Writer because I remind you every five god damn seconds, is giving away two tickets to the Lucero/J. Roddy Walston & the Business show at the 9:30 Club in Washington DC on - wait for it - DBN’s one year anniversary, April 25th!
Winners for both will be chosen by noon on Tuesday, April 24th. Go to TVD’s web site to leave a comment to win the tickets. Leave a brief comment here at DBN telling me about your favorite Ben Nichols moment to win the autographed poster.
Best of luck!  :) I love you all. Like, 4SRS.

I just keeping getting better, what can I say?

    BY MICHELLE EVANS

We’re continuing our 10 Weeks of Vinyl Giveaways, our very own countdown to Record Store Day 2012, with a very special opportunity for Lucero fans.

They recently released their highly-anticipated eighth album,Women & Work, on their new record label, ATO Records (Drive-By Truckers, My Morning Jacket).

Women & Work is “a love letter from Lucero to its hometown, Memphis, TN,” featuring country and soul influences from records like Delaney & Bonnie’s first album on the Stax label, Home.

And guess what? We’ve got an autographed record to give away to one of you.

To enter to win, pick one of your favorite songs off the new album, and leave a brief-but-compelling comment telling us why it’s your favorite. (Key word: “brief.” We’re not lookin’ for novellas here.)

To help inspire you, I’ll pick one of mine, “It May Be Too Late,” a song, I believe, that perfectly blends old and new Lucero sounds while showcasing the colloquial songwriting style both newer and long-time fans have come to know, love, and expect from frontman Ben Nichols.

The winner will be selected a week from today, on Thursday, April 19th, and must have a North American mailing address.

Lucero are now touring with dates going through August.

    Because I rule.

    Realization:

    dearbennichols:

    I run dearbennichols.com.

Dearbennichols.com has a link on it to my personal Tumblr, daringdame.

Daringdame is a “day in the life of me” style blog.

Sometimes that includes post-break-up craziness posts.

Ben and the boys, and even Ben’s parents, are aware of dearbennichols.

    Ben may have seen daringdame.

I actually don’t care. I just never thought about it till right now.

    Still, thank goodness I’m boring.
